The Meressina project “officially” inaugurated the collaboration between the NINA Center and the Biorobotics Institute of the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna in Pisa.

The work was divided into three phases: an initial, theoretical study of the anatomy and physiology of the respiratory system of the newborn (on the medical side) and of materials (on the engineering side); a second one, for the design and construction of the prototype; and, finally, a third, validation through the use in simulation courses on respiratory assistance of the newborn. The final result, a 5-chamber pulmonary simulator, controlled through dedicated software, can be connected to the instrumentation for ventilatory assistance commonly used in Neonatal Intensive Care.

MERESSINA project, funded by AGENAS (National Commission for Continuing Education – Italian Ministry of Health), call for proposals “Development and research on innovative methodologies in continuous training – year 2011”
